Hot-water extraction is the process most carpet manufacturers specify in their own warranties. Here's what it actually involves.
1. Dry soil removal
Around 80% of what's in a carpet is dry grit. Vacuuming it out first means the rest of the process isn't just turning that grit into mud.
2. Pre-spray and agitation
A pH-matched solution goes down on traffic lanes and stains, gets brushed through the pile, and is left to dwell. This is the step budget operators skip, and it does most of the work.
3. Hot-water extraction
Water heated to around 90°C is injected into the pile at pressure and vacuumed straight back out, carrying the loosened soil with it. More suction means less residue and a much faster dry.
4. Grooming and drying
The pile is groomed in one direction so it dries evenly and doesn't look patchy, then air movers go into the busiest rooms.
