A sofa absorbs body oils, food, hair and skin cells for years without ever being washed. Most look fine until you clean one arm and compare it to the other — and then it's very hard to unsee.
What we clean on a sofa
Arms, back, base, both sides of every cushion, the frame fabric underneath the cushions, and the sides and skirt. Removable covers are cleaned in place rather than laundered, because washing machines shrink upholstery covers and you'll never get them back on.
Scatter cushions are included free when they're part of the set.
Fabric types and methods
Cotton and linen blends take a standard low-moisture extraction. Chenille and velvet need careful pile-direction work or they dry patchy. Microfibre and suede-look fabrics are water-sensitive and get a solvent-side method instead. Leather isn't part of this service — we quote leather care separately.
We check the manufacturer's cleaning code on the label first. W, S, WS and X each mean a different approach, and getting it wrong is how sofas end up with permanent watermarks.
Smells, not just stains
Most sofa odour is in the foam, not the fabric. Surface sprays cover it for a fortnight. We use an odour-neutralising agent that's extracted back out rather than left to sit, and for pet-related smells we treat the base deck as well as the visible surfaces.
Before we arrive
Vacuum down the sides if you can face it, and clear the area around the sofa. Retrieve anything valuable that's fallen into the frame — we return the coins, but the earrings are usually a nice surprise.
Sofa Cleaning your questions
Can't see yours? Ring us — we'd rather answer it before you book than after.
How much does sofa cleaning cost?
Sofa cleaning is £25 per seat. We confirm the number of seats and the total price before the appointment; the normal minimum-visit charge applies where relevant.
How long until we can sit on it again?
Three to five hours for most fabrics. Velvet and chenille take a little longer. We'll leave an air mover running if you're in a hurry.
Can you clean a leather sofa?
Leather needs a different process — cleaning, conditioning and sometimes re-pigmenting. We quote it separately rather than treating it as a fabric job.
Will it get rid of the dog smell?
In most cases yes, provided the foam isn't saturated. We'll be honest after inspecting it — if a sofa has absorbed years of contamination, cleaning improves it but won't make it new.
While we're there
Adding a second service to the same visit is almost always cheaper than booking twice.
